prior to Hurricane Katrina? Did the Governor of Louisiana and the Mayor of New Orleans not have a part in the planning for a disaster and the recovery?
My question is about those two people and their failed jobs.
If you don't have any insight into why those two aren't scrutinized, and feel you need to change the subject to someone else, please don't bother to answer.

I never thought I'd see the day!
The reason I didn't add the President is because I know how so many poeple feel, and it's all because Kanye West said so.

Good question! I find it interesting that some people are willing to impeach the President for supposed war crimes but don't think those two, especially Nagan should be tried for mass murder.

These two are supposed to be links (I hope they work.) that speaks to Katrina and what's been said. Interesting stuff!

I think we should look at the lack of planning. Better yet let's look at what actually happened prior to Katrina hitting. There was alot of slow response on the part of the National Government to solidly report to city, county and state public emergency systems to evacuate. That was the first huge mistake. Second, there was a lack of care by the National Gov't to take action such as sending in the National Guard to help evacuate. And, third there was a huge miscommunication gap between the people, the local, state and national gov't. All people failed in their jobs, all are to blame and all need to take a step up to the plate and take responsibility. Nagin is probably the worst mayor for this. And, for the poor N.O people, they have this reality compounded with the reality that they have the worst possible president for this who doesn't give a **** about them.

The US Army Corp was responsible for the engineering and construction of the levees. Are you suggesting The Governor of LA and the mayor of New Orleans be in charge of the US Army Corp?
Engineering experts say that canal walls were designed and built using substandard engineering standards. Even when this situation became known to the Corps it was decided to do nothing about it.Then, on August 29, flood walls and levees catastrophically failed throughout the metro area. Many collapsed well below design thresholds (e.g. 17th Street and London Canals). Others collapsed after a brief period of overtopping (Industrial Canal) caused by “scouring” or erosion of the earthen levee walls – an egregious design flaw.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers now admits that faulty design specifications and substandard construction of certain levee segments, not a hurricane was the primary cause of the flooding damage in the New Orleans area. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, a federal agency has sole authority over the design and construction of metro New Orleans’ flood protection and water management as authorized by Congress in the Lake Pontchartrain Hurricane Protection Project in the Flood Control Act of 1965.

Do we want "States Rights" or "Federal Control"? I would tend to think both Govenor Blanco and Mayor Nagin would argue for States rights and controls, but when you screw up as bad as they did you got to blame someone else (i.e.: George Bush and the Federal Government). How stupid can you be, A category 5 Hurricane heading towards a city that lies beneath sea level, your mayor of the city with control over all city services and you don't use the Public Transportation buses to evacuate the citizens? Instead you direct them to a central area with no readily available supplies for feeding them and leave the buses to ruin in the impending flood.
Lack of planning and foresight. Many people had seen this coming for years and for no one in Louisiana Government to plan for the enevitable is to me to be criminally negligent.

They didn't then and they don't now either. Nagin and Blanco should be in prison. I heard Blanco on TV the other day whining that Mississippi was getting more federal aid that Louisiana. Maybe that's because the Governor of Mississippi completed all of the necessary applications and took care of business rather than making appearances on Oprah and CNN.

You are absolutely correct! The lowlands were in their district and some local plans should have already been in place. It is a wonder ray Nagin is back in office!
As to why the people involved haven't been more closely scrutinized... I am at a loss for words!

Because both the Governor and Mayor are Democrats, and if people were to start blaming them for being the total scewups they were and are they would have to stop blaming Bush.

Years ago I knew I had to make it to New Orleans to see it because we had been hearing about the destruction of New Orleans by a mjor Hurricane for what seems like forever (waaayyyy before Katrina happened). You would think if someone like me, little ole me knew it was going to happen, then their own LEADERS could have come up with somekind of plan to evacuate the city. Which they had plenty of time to do.

why is Ray Nagin letting New Orleans be rebuilt by illegal aliens?
This certainly is not fair to evacuees...why aren't they being trained...many are able-bodied. It seems to me this would be good for his people as rebuilding will go on for decades! If the illegals are learning thru "on the job" training why couldn't former New Orleans people do the same? Reconstruction could not go much slower! I have to wonder if he has been bought by big business....where is the NAACP demanding jobs for their people?

I would say they did not have a plan for disaster and recovery. The people need to step forward and get someone in office that can get something done because it is obvious the mayor can not
