Gender wise, much the same as the other countries of the United Kingdom. Slightly more males than females at birth, females live longer, therefore the difference evens itself out.
Population is just under 5 million (less than a tenth of England) and is ageing fast and also dwindling. (If you lived here for a winter you would know why)
