I think in a nutshell it is Spiderman.

Peter Parker is an everyman that gets this power thrust upon him, totally by accident and through it completely changes his world.

He is able to fight back (something he has needed to do his whole life), but he chooses to use it for personal gain, he looses his uncle.

He tries to be a superhero and he looses his first love, Gwen Stacy, to an unfortunate error on his part.

His superpower brings him great joy and helps him accomplish a lot, but it also brings him pain and makes him have to really think about what he has to do...and it is more of the real world that when he chooses the right thing to do, or the percieves right thing...there are consequences to those actions...But he learns everytime from it and so he slowly grows and evolves as a true person would.

He is the 20th and thanks to the movies and Ultimate Spiderman the 21st century's everyman.

Spider-man, Spider-man
Does whatever a spider can
Spins his web any size.
Catches thieves just like flies.
Look out,
here comes the Spider-Man

Is he strong? Listen, bud.
He's got radioactive blood.
Can he swing from a thread?
Take a look overhead.
Hey there,
there goes the Spider-Man.

In the chill of the night
at the scene of a crime,
like a streak of light
he arrives just in time.

Spider-Man, Spider-Man,
friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
Wealth and fame he's ignored.
Action is his reward.
To him, life is a great big bang-up.
Whenever there's a hang-up,
you'll find the Spider-Man!!!!!!!
