I used to have a 3.9 range rover on LPG for 2 years. loved it the only thing i found was that it tended to need new spark plugs more often than when running on petrol. i was told this was due to a hotter combustion, there was a slight loss of power but i only noticed it when towing heavy loads ( 2 big horses in a trailer).

The biggest draw back i found was that i had a 100 litre tank in the boot. This took up a lot of space and was not big enough to last me a week between fill ups.

When using LPG you soon get to know where you can refill in your local area but if going further afield see below links

One gives more info on LPG the other a UK map of all LPG outlets that you may find useful.

I could get about 250 - 300 miles from 1 tank and as generally you keep them as a dual fuel if you run out of LPG can always use petrol to get you to the next station.

Another draw back to LPG, as well as the ones listed in this forum is the reduction in power. LPG burnes cleaner, but on older vehicles, you will need a valve job to convert the valves to stelite material from normal steel. The stelite material can handle the higher temperatures of LPG. Left un changed, the heads will experience a shorted life span than normal.

Generally LPG powered cars have range of about 150-200 miles at most. Are you sure you'll find a refuel place before reaching the limit?

I don't know where you live, but in Australia now It is not worth a cent to convert your car from petrol to LPG (can fill up everywhere in Aust) due to the LPG prices.
Compare this:
LPG 60 liters(1 tank) cost 80 cents x60= $48.00 will drive 300km
Petrol 38liters $1.40 x 38= $53.00 will drive 300km
(base on my 4WD)
Only the different $5.00 benefit, but it is not enough for the repairing on your car! Remember that all cars with LPG the engine causes more problems!! such as : less power, Fuel injector system blocked, gas leaked, internal parts worn...
Should think it twice before do the Gas Conversion.

TONY G is right you cannot go through the channel tunnel if you have L P G powered vehicle it all so takes up a lot of room in the boot and L P G is not very common in Europe

I don't think LPG cars are allowed thru tunnels (case by case) and i think that might include the Channel Tunnel... check with them.

unless you do more than 15,000 a year on gas i doubt you'll get the pay back
