The brains of certain people are hard wired for crossdressing. When these people wear women's clothes their brains produce a series of neurotransmitters which produce feelings of well-being, pleasure, sexual gratification and self-identity. The neurotransmitters are the same chemicals associated with addictive behaviour and derive the same reward stimulus as an addictive behavior. The experience of crossdressing produces a "high" for them that calls for more. So, crossdressers not only enjoy crossdressing, they feel a NEED to crossdress.
So what do you do with this addiction? You can try to keep it under control or you can let it control you... If you find yourself experimenting more and more with crossdressing to the point where you create an ultra-female alter-ego and give "her" a name and begin caring for "her" like a lover, then you know that you're in way too deep. This type of crossdressing really hurts your relationships with your family and those you love.
Most crossdressers remain in the closet all their lives. They restrict their crossdressing to only certain types of clothing and dress out only rarely. They may even turn their crossdressing into more of a fetish. Or, they may limit their crossdressing to a slip or panties worn under their pajamas at night. They still enjoy the feel, but live fully as a man, and appreciate being a man.

Well probably for a variety of reasons that only you are going to recognize. My ex started crossdressing in his mothers clothing when he was under 5 and continued until he had a g/f that he could borrow hers(me). I've known the man now(married, divorced) for almost 35 years and its never been a sexual turn on nor is it something that brings him shame. He passes, and when younger actually performed as a drag queen. While taking on the aspects of a female (at least his exaggerated view of a female), once out of dress he was a burping, sports watching, smelly regular good ol boy. He says he got a great deal of peace from crossdressing, a release from his anxieties, even as a small child. Basically it makes him feel better and in more control of his world.
However I have had many male submissives, who found being 'forced" into women's clothing's a sexual turn on, and the humiliation was catalyst to their overall enjoyment. Usually these are Type A personalities who have low self esteem. They start dressing in puberty and there is always a sexual component. They found being identified as female a degradation.
I have know idea where you are on these two extremes or its in the middle with alittle of both. I do know this, in either case, you won't ever be able to quit. You need to keep that in mind when getting involved in relationships. What ever triggers you now, will always trigger you.

In each of, exists two distinct genders, female and male. Society dictates that we dress and behave in the gender that our physical sex is. So we are forced to suppress and hide the opposite side of our persona.
Crossdressers have the unique ability to allow that side out and to embrace that side. We do so by wearing the clothing of the opposite sex. We enjoy the feel of pantyhose, the sounds of our steps in heels, the things that men are not supposed to enjoy.
For others, it is a sexual fetish and turn on. And others, curiosity, a form of experimentation.
There is nothing wrong or illicit to crossdressing. Thais has been proven time and time again. So go and enjoy yourself.

If it feels natural for you, do not worry about the why.
Just take care that you find a way to live yourself.
If it "only" turns you on, take it as a game.

I'd have to say that you cross-dress for any number of reasons, but only you can answer that for yourself. Myself, I love the clothes, make-up, heels, shaving my legs & being a girl from time to time.

Because you like to decide everything about your life you do not like society putting labels on you, you want that control for yourself. And since it puts society off that you dress differently it's your little jib back at them that you refuse to conform.
