what do you have to look at when deciding where to go? what is the cost? how do you get help once you have been included?

1) Choose an organization. I went to Japan through Youth For Understanding. Some of the other ones have real problems with the host families, but I don't recall YFU having any.

2) Fill out an application. YFU has one on the website.

3) Either pay a few thousand or get one of the many scholarships available. I went for free!

4) Learn as much of the language and culture as possible!


You can call YFU at 1-800-TEENAGE any time if you have questions. You can also go to the "Ask YFU Alumni" and ask former exchange students anything. If you are going to Japan, ask Jessica! (I haven't had many people ask lately.. :p )
