To clone just a piece of DNA, say one gene, you put a copy of the gene into a bacteria cell. (You do this by inserting the gene into a plasmid, which is a circular bit of dna that has all the promoters etc to make protein)

Anyhoo, you put this plasmid into a bacterium, and then you put the bacterium in nutrient broth and let it reproduce. It will make tons and tons of "clones", which are exact copies of the original cell.

Each one of your clones will have the plasmid inside, which has your dna bit, and voila! You have cloned the dna.

This is usually what is meant by "cloning DNA". Some of the other responders have given you details about different types of cloning.

PCR is a method to make lots of copies of the gene, but is not usually reffered to as "cloning".

Let see, it depends what DNA you mean, wether animal, plant or bacteria etc....
I'll explain about animal cloning, for example Dolly the Sheep!
She was made by taking a nucleus from an udder cell of an adult sheep (We'll call it sheep A). This cell would have had a full set of chromosones, then an unfertilised egg was taken from sheep B and the nucleus of sheep A's cell was inserted into the egg. The cells are then made to fuse with a small electric shock. Then the fused egg and nucleus were insterted into a surrogate sheep. Then dolly was produced.
This was cloning because there were no gametes (male and femal sex cells) involved. Dolly was a copy of sheep A.
I hope you understand a bit more!

I think you mean- how is an organism cloned by using the adult samples?

They take an empty egg and fill it with the genetic code of the donor and implant it in a female to gestate

Through a process called PCR - or polymerase chain reactions. Simply put, pieces of DNA are put into a container with enzymes that cut and reproduce them.
