I think they have done their best to rebuilt the government by making Iraq a democracy, but the insurgents keep on hindering everything.

That effort has been an abject failure, and as a consequence Iraq is now in a state of civil war. This is not surprising--given that the Bush administration did not set out to help build a genuine democracy and has not made any real effort to restore the country's infrastructure or economy.

Yes, I'm fully aware that there was an "election"--but Saddam had "elections" too--and they were about as real as the one that was held with the who "purple finger" nonsense. The candidates were screened (selected) by the Bush administration and the election rules rigged to allow only thieir favorded "candidates" to win.

In short, this is a puppet government, not an Iraqi government--and the events there make it clear the Iraquis have figured that out. The Iraq government cannot govern--and will fall--possiblly by the end of the year---but certainly as soon as our forces are no longer there to prop it up. As welll it should--it is not a democracy, never has been, and was never intended to be.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has traveled to Iraq for a quick fact-finding visit that will include a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. Maybe now we will be able to get some reliable info from the area. The Iraqi government does not want the added troops. This mess will only be solved by Iraqis diplomacy with their countrymen.
