Wanbo.. what steps is Bush taking to achieve this goal? Free elections don't exactly seem to be the road to conversion.

Rug.. I've heard from soldiers that have been to Iraq, and there seems to be a division even among them as to whether this is "winnable".
How much are we to spend in life and treasure to "win"?

Winning would be a regionally supported and sanctioned solution that supports the direction the Iraqis want to take. After we pick up our bat, gloves and go home. The only catch is : we have created so many implacable enemies through this war and our conduct that it may not be possible now. For this I hold Bush accountable.

Winning lol my opinion is that by sending more troops will cause a bigger war then it already is. The reason they are fighting is because we are there in Iraq without us there the fighting would remain anyway but the iraq's new government would fight. I think what we should of done was trained iraq soldiers much early then we did, we wasted all this time and not a thing got done. If bush thinks this new stragety will work well he is wrong it will only make things worse. Terrorists will always find a way to strike us in Iraq or any other countries including the united states. The war on terror cannot be stopped only detered I wish bush could get that through his thick head.

Staying there and finishing the job that Our Brave Soldiers are trained to do. Which is allowing The Iraqi People, a chance to govern themselves. If you ask the Soldiers that are there. They'll tell you that it's a winnable War. But we much be able to give them the time to do it. God Bless America.

Putting a Stable democracy in place that is self sufficient and stable.

One that won't erupt into civil war, or collapse the day after the troops leave

In my opinion, this is almost impossible, there are too many extremists in Iraq at the moment, and the country is used to having a dictator. In my opinion, the culture of Iraq does not suit the idea of western democracy that we are trying to impose upon them.

There is no "win" in Iraq! We (The U.S.) must accept that our ideas just do not make sense to the Iraqi people! They must work out the problem without the U.S. or any other country dictating how they should govern themselves.
