It is a fairly new cpu--2003 and a 19 inch monitor. Everything works fine. I hate to just throw it away. There is nothing private on the hard drive

I would suggest donating it, but if you are looking at getting any money for it you could go to ebay, a local computer repair store, or a pawn shop. My suggestion for ebay, if you go that route is to really know what kind of hardware you have in it. Processor, speed of it, RAM amount and type, sound/video cards, size of Hard drive and type of CD/DVD drives (DVD+/-RW, CD-r only, etc.) Also, the software that has been added to it would really help you sell it sometimes. Considering it's a used Compaq, I wouldn't expect it to be worth very much, but if it's still in good condition I don't see why it should be a problem. Compaq has generally always appealed to a budget minded crowd so expect a used-budget return on it. I mention a local computer repair store because they can often use the parts from it for their needs. Good luck.

Depending on the manufacturer, you can contact them and actually have them help you recycle it.

There is a new DEP bill that requires a manufacturer to provide an end of life route for any equipment they require.

The other options are of course to donate it to charity, or a local school, or even a friend.

Hope this helps!!!

Why get rid of it when you can set up a NETWORK between another computer you MIGHT have? Seriously, Networking the computers is really helpful when you live with multiple people, and it also serves as a back-up computer in case one of the PCs becomes unusable (assuming you have another computer(s))

You can give it to somebody or a school should be willing to take it. I'm sure someone out there would be very happy to take it. Maybe you can just hold on to it and keep it for a spare in case your other PC should go down. I'll even take it.

Contact a local school or community group. They are usually happy to get anything that works.

In southwest Michigan the "Goodwill" stores take in computers and printers and refurbish them. Perhaps they do by you as well.
