Surrounded by water, they usually are the top of an underwater mountain, lots of them are volcanic in origin. some are really small, others are very large. many well to do people own an island. I

I am sure there are more, but that is all I can handle right now.

Some islands are made out of lava like Hawaii. A volcanoe erupted under the sea and created the island Hawaii.

Kaffeklubben Island (”Coffee Club Island” in Danish) is the most northern permanent island. There are some gravel banks or sand bars further north, but they are not permanent (i.e., they wouldn't last more than a few decades).
