I have no problem ripping into someone for being mean to me, my bluntness with clients is one of the things I get "in trouble" for at work...

If ignoring isn't an option I will respond, usually with something that puts the person in their place without stooping to their level.
Most things said with a mean spirit are not very intelligent, so this isn't hard to do.

I am good with words and can be rather harsh when I choose to be. So I normally walk away but there are those who deserve to be verbally lashed.
I don’t take any pride in being like this, but when its needed I can shame someone easily.

Depends really on what was said. If it was something that is stupid, then I usually try to walk away...but if they are judging me without knowing me or being hypocritical, then most likely I'll open my big mouth. I have a slight problem doing that a lot lately!!!

when someone fights, they WANT you to fight back. I dont give them the satisfaction. I say something silly, like wow, my feet are cold, or hey, the sky is blue, with a smile, and walk away. gets em every time

I try not to sink to such a low level unless it's 100% necessary.
If it's mean about me - I shrug it off. If it's something mean about a loved one - then I fight back.

Some people may not find the opportunity, energy, will or courage in their soul to fight back but i do.
if someone tells me something nasty, he-she should be prepeared to get the "appropiate" answer

I wish that I could. I am usually so taken aback if something says a nasty thing to me. So I sit there like an idiot and think of great comebacks - LATER.

It depend on who the person is. If it is a stranger, I just ignore them. Then again, if it is someplace where I am spending my money, I can get real defensive.
