Babies thrive and feel most secure with routine, make it habbit to put him to sleep i his crib from here on out. Make sure you put him down at the same time every night and do the same steps leading up to bed time. Have a bath, dress in jammies, breastfeed and then bed. I always suggest if you breastfeed in the same chair every day, try draping a baby blanket over the back. throughout the day it'll pick up on your scent, then lay the baby down with that blanket when it's night time. He'll still smell you near and that'll help with any separation anxiety. If you don't have a blanket or whatever, jsut take your shirt off (if there are no buttons of fastens on it) and lay that down with him. Best of luck to ya!

He will on his own in time. My 9 month old has just this week started nappign on his own. He sits in his bouncy seat backwards and sleeps there for both his morning short nap and his afternoon 2-3 hour nap. The same goes for night time sleeping, although we aren't quite there yet either. But he is getting where he will stay in his playpen for a while on his own without me fearing teh neighbors calling the police for his screaming. Be patient. It's only been the week with mine and already I kind of miss him "needing" me for his naps. :(

i am having this problem as well. she sometimes will fall asleep listening to her mobile or watching her pooh ceiling image projector. my problem is the mobile does not play long enough i wish someone would invent one that you didn't have to go and wind every five minutes. personally i don't let my baby cry it out for very long. i do let her cry some in her crib, but if she doesn't quiet down within like 10 minutes, i will go and get her. because she will end up crying until she makes herself sick.

You should have started your baby sleeping alone from the start, but thats ok. Crying will hurt you more than baby and he"ll get tired and fall asleep. Do this consistently and don't break down and put him back in bed with you, and both you and baby will sleep more contently in the long run!!

The worst thing that could happen as a result of him crying himself to sleep is that he'll realize that he can't get everything he wants in life by fussing about it. Babies who are held every time they start to cry grow up to be coddled, spoiled little brats.

start right away!! right after baby is born. It takes constant repetitive motions eventually your baby will get it. rock baby to sleep, lay it down in bed, when it wakes up, rock it back to sleep, lay it back down to sleep, eventually your baby will be so used to sleeping in it's own bed that eventually it won't wake up because it's not by mom or dad.

It might be a little early to push independance on your baby. Maybe you could hire someone to be the mother it needs.

you have to change whatever behavior is making him dependent. if he can't go to sleep without you holding him, stop holding him. maybe he nurses to sleep, stop doing that. whatever the behavior is, he's going to cry until he's used to it being stopped.
