With you on that, pal.
I'm British, but can't wait to get my sorry gat-hole back to the Rebublic (lived there for many years).
None of your audience can probably pronounce "Sipho", by the way - educate them.

I really do miss South Africa, I miss my family, the way everyone in my hometown knows me. Braais with lambchops and boerewors, swimming in my backyard in a decent swimmingpool. Houses that are actually big enough without having to put half your belongings in the loft!

But as for England - I came here because my (now ex) husband is British. After 5 years I am still scared of driving when it snowed, I hate the fact that I live in a house, but only a wall between me and my neighbours. But I'll be forever thankful for this country, because I am able to work and bring my boy up on my own, also because when I wake up in the morning and realise I left my door unlocked, I feel "Oh dear", and forget about it, not "Oh s**t, we could've been killed". And numerous other things.

I can't put England down. It's been great for me and my boy. Off course there are problems in SA, and others in England. You'll never be able to live in a perfect world. I think it is what you make of where ever you are.

Not all english people are chavs or racists. However i have seen a fair few that are.(racist) As for the chavs- please don't even go there. As for hating this country- i would say no i dont. This country has given my parents oppurtunities they would never have had where we come from and me, well i've been given a whole new life. For that i am thankful.

I did leave The UK for exactly that reason. I am British (white) and ashamed of what has happened to my country over the last 40 years.

The 'chavs' you speak of (for the benefit of of readers) are a subculture of generally unemployed, poorly educated (in the affective sense) individuals that are tolerated because of idiotic and liberal social policies. There are a lot of very real 'no go' areas in UK cities because of them and people like them.

A country that is actually proud of the fact that it has one CCTV for every 12 people. They need them because Britain has become a lawless place where criminals seem to be rewarded for their crimes.

A land of equality? The legislation is there and god help anyone that might even refer to another's race in the workplace, let anyone insult them. On the streets its another matter altogether. A racist free for all.

I sit here and way up the good and bad of both countries and they come up even, but the bad in South Africa is rape, murder, hi-jackings etc. and I am scared to have my kids there and by the way, I am South African.
