Yes, it would further empower policy by the people. While there are many, many problems with corruption in politics and such, any other system is just a form of dictatorship or autocratic rule of some type. It's better to continue to work the bugs out of the political process, then to have those in power over us appointed.

thats one thought towards improving things but I think a better one would be to make it so that "No" member of the bar association can be either a judge or a politition so as to end the bar associations monopoly on the law in this country! When the same group is writing the laws, working the laws and interperating the law it seems obvious to me that they will be pretty much the only group benefitting from the law

Good gravy, no!
A judge's role is to decide questions of LAW, not questions of popular opinion. A judge who wanted to keep his job would be subjected to the temptation to skew his rulings to what the people want and not what the law says.
Unpopular rulings usually come from a judge with the moral courage to adhere to the judicial oath. They apply the facts of the case to the law, then rule accordingly.
Sometimes this means nice guys are convicted.
Sometimes this means bad guys walk.
Not the judge's fault. Blame the writers of the law. Blame the Constitution.

No, because that would compromise the integrity (-cough-) of the judges. Elected officials have to campaign, and search for the "most popular" answers, instead of the "right" answers. Justice would fail in lieu of politics.

Yes. It would be better if the Supreme Court judges were elected by the people rather than the president because then there will be a better representation of political ideologies.

Well, would you want to be 'judged' in a court by a judge you didn't vote for, or don't agree with? No, judges should be appointed... elect good people to appoint them.

No. Judges operate with the law, not public opinion. It's up to the politicians to change laws people don't like.
