a) What is r, the ratio between 2 consecutive terms?

Since we are given this is a geometric series, that means the ratio between ANY two consecutive values in the sequence is the same.

To solve for r, all we have to do is take any value (except for the first in the sequence), and divide it by its previous value.

Take 27.

r = 27/9 = 3

Note that it won't matter what value we take.

Take 9. Its previous value is 3, so

r = 9/3 = 3.
