So I was crossing the street at a crosswalk with the walk light on when some guy making a right turn comes out of nowhere and hits me. I went down hitting my shoulder on the pavement and almost had my ankle completely ran over if he hadn't stopped when he did.

He stopped and made sure I was alright and another car behind him stopped and asked if I needed any help. I could get up and walk even though it hurt really bad at the time, and now a day later it hurts much worse but I can still walk.

Should I have taken him to court or asked for some kind of compensation? Or was I right in just shrugging it off even though it was obviously his fault and nothing more serious happened?

I think if you are all right, you should let it go. We are too much a litigious nation and that's why insurance is so darn expensive and lawyers are so darn rich.

You NEVER leave the scene of an accident without exchanging information ESPECIALLY when it's the other person's fault.

You should have notified the police, filed a police report, obtained his personal information then contact HIS insurance agent for medical compensation. If you did not obtain any information from the driver, then you are screwed. Accidents such as this will not always feel like they hurt when it happens. The impact will be felt later on and in many cases, can cause trouble throughout life if not taken care of. And since you failed to obtain info, it will come out of your own pocket.

If you obtained any info, then you need to visit the local police station for the area of the accident and file a report. Then contact the drivers insurance company to file a medical claim.

You should have called the police immediately. Anytime there is an accident like this you need to call the police. What happens if you have some permanent damage years down the road related to this accident. Go to the police station and report the accident so that it is on record. Hopefully you got the drivers name so he can be contacted as he is responsible for all your medical bills. After you report the accident to the urgent care or ER in your area and get checked out.
