I can answer that question...I don't have any pimples either...some people hey?
I' tellin ya, I worked at telemarketing for 1 year...they demand more of you then they let on of course (the down side) making their goals or "your goals" hard to meet! But, they usually are selling or setting appointments... Set Appointments and their is a very standard Rap for that...and although you still have to make X amount of appts...the guy or Gal goin' out their is sharing the blame for the "No sale"...Hell I got good at and I was setting appointments for "gutter covers"...really and although they could be of some remote help...they aren't necessary! So I got real tired of that inspirational talk before each session of work...insinuating we just weren't staying focused etc. I told them to Kiss this... Now, I took that job because I couldn't walk after an accident on a horse...made 40K easy in that time, with never having to deal with a customer face to face... But it can get rather caustic on the phone thing too...they will tell you to quit calling this F_ing House etc... so just don'y get caught up in that bringing you down just go to the next jump...I now teach middle school students at a "last chance" alternative school..."no kid left behind thing"
I am a Behavioral Scientist by education and a Bouncer/singer songwriter at night...the teacher can be fun... I just have to know when I can't save the world sometimes... so "A testimonial" I sold Dish Network by Telemarketing, by the time i read the whole script to the person on the phone for 6 hours (that's enough) I usually lost my voice... no singing that night...So try it...most of them don't require a urine test, Cool with me because I think a it's obtrusive and is a travesty of personal self realization and choice... but major companies feel the pressure of liability...so to make a long story longer... Try the appointment setting gig for awhile and go in each day with a smile in your voice..get paid no Face to Face! P.S. Get a headset even if the company doesn't supply them. You can call faster (name of the game) and have full use of writing down info, without bending your neck till you need pain killers! Come on now give it a try...I just read "career builder" (Online Job thing like "Monster.com) last week for my resource students(older) there must have been at least 25 different places to do that..(Temp agents especially) and you will get on full time if your good at it...no doubt about it, they won't let you leave...anything else? would I do it again, hell yes...if the kids get to me on Monday, I may apply Tuesday! Have Fun, Usually a great atmosphere!

I totally feel your pain. I hated dealing with them, too. I think just about every job deals with customers on some level. I'm a police officer, and I don't have to kiss anyone's ass. There's definitely a huge sense of freedom that comes along with that.

The only problem with your idea is that you'll still have to deal with customers on the phone. While that's NOT face-to-face, you STIL need to have good "people skills" regardless.
You could be in shipping and receiving...they usually don't even deal with the phone.

Telemarketing is an easy entry-level jobs that doesn't require working with customers face to face. It sounds like you would be fine over the phone.

Data entry is an entry-level job that would not require working with customers at all.

Work Freight crew at a grocery store or something. It's hard work and graveyard shift, but there are no annoying customers to get in your grill.
