Divorce is at an all time high. Blended families is the norm now. Dysfunction is rampet, delinquency is rediculous, no one takes their vows seriously...it's just a pc of paper. It says "in sickness & health, for better or worse, til death us do part"; this is to include all the reasons ppl use to get their divorce. If divorce was made almost illegal, the gov imposed a HUGE tax break on those who stay married, FREE child care for those couples making under $75,000 combined, FREE marrital & family counseling for ALL no matter their income...I feel our nation's well being would significantly improve. Divorce to those who are abused with the abuser going to prison for minimum of 3 days; max 60 months. Adulters punishable by prison (better be a GREAT pc of *zz). Our divorce rate would soon be the lowest in the world. NO more broken homes, kids come first again, morals & family values come back to us all. Are we really "happier" today than our grandparents were?

I was also beaten to the point of wheelchair, crutches, physical therapy for 2 years...that's is why I said "abusers go to prison for no less than 3 days & max 60 months(5 eyars)" in which cases there will be a divorce granted by the judge. PPL are getting married with the belief "if it don't work out, we'll just get a divorce". I'm almost to the point of agreeing there should be NO marriages. More like a cel phone contract! You agree to a one year, two year or 3 year contract with the option to extend the contract before it ends. I am also divorced from my abuser. It was neccessary though & I got the church to approve it as well. My guy had NO criminal record so nothing would have shown up on his background check until NOW after he went to jail for what he did to ME & our kids. I feel I wouldn't of married him if I knew it would be almost impossible to get out of the marriage. Yes, perhaps the murder rates would go up, I surely wanted him DEAD.

Women as well as men can be abusers.. Our problems, divorce etc. have been happening since the late 50's and growing. I guess people really need to be more educated on marriage before they do it. .Once kids are in the picture divorce should be the last resort unless the persons involved are involved in drugs, crime(murder) or things harmful to the children. People today take the easy way out..

would it make us really happy to have to stay in a marriage where we were cheated on and abused? we can't control people's free will, they are going to cheat no matter what. good idea but would it really work? don't think we are happier than our grandparents were, different morals today, lack of god's principals in our marriages. marriages would do better if they were based on a promise rather than conditions. we all have such a lack of understanding, because of our way of life, and belief system. would we really want to stay married to a cheater, or someone who didn't love us? because of some tax break, or law. think less people would take the leap, marriage would no longer be the way people would choose to go if they knew it would be difficult to get out of. as we often stay married due to a feeling rather than a choice we make to keep a promise we made.

definitely not because I will not go back to my ex, because I am not to live with bruises and batterings and the psychological abuse again,if that were the case all divorces in the past unless grandfathered in would be null and void,I think the counseling part with a background check is a good idea

look at lands and govt's where divorce is illegal and how many people have to leave their homeland because they are unhappy with their marital arrangement, never to return

You are kidding, right? Family abuse. Child Abuse. Failure to support the family whre you live. Spousal abuse. Religious change of direction...

Kids come first where parents agree kids come first. There are dirvorced people to make it work for the kids. There are married people who ignore kids. Marital status doesn't enter into the discussion of the status of children.

Divorce isn't a first choice, but it can be ther right last resort.

Considering I was in a marriage where my spouse thought it was ok to beat the snot out of me and the kids, I'd have to say no.

Maybe premarital counseling with a background check which includes a psychological profile and access to the future spouse's medical records would be more appropriate.

Honey, I might be dead if they outlawed divorce. Sometimes we choose the wrong person b/c they lied to us about everything and when we get married, we find out the "real" person. So I would have to say Heck no.

I'm going to say no, because then there would be swarms of people trying to figure out ways to outsmart CSI when disposing of the bodies. Perhaps a better solution would be to outlaw marriage?

If we didn't have divorce, there would be a hell of a lot of unhappy families around, making unhappier children and an even unhappier future. I say we outlaw marriage instead.
