Don't you just hate when people on Y!A make fun of people who don't use the greatest of English? I mean, you have to think of who really is using Y!A. It isn't only the States, they are from other countries who do the best they can using the English language. Isn't it well known that the English language is one of the toughest to learn...can't we, as decent people, learn to be patient with language barriers?

A couple of you did bring up some good points and I do agree, so as an addition to my question...Does anyone ever think of WHO is not only asking the questions or answering them, but WHO are reading the questions and answers when they make their comments? Misspellings and grammatical errors doesn't mean people are stupid...It just means they've made some simple, honest mistakes. As for my grammar teacher needing to be shot...he was, and left behind a young family...you should be wary of what you say!!!

Oh, just to let you all know, I grew up in Chicago, Il and now reside in Kenosha, WI. I'm not bashing my fellow Americans, I just hate to see people make fun of other's mistakes, when really, we all are not perfect...especially myself.

I agree! But then again, think of who is usually answering the questions- younger teenagers and many uneducated adults. I think it is a maturity issue that while frustrating, is the norm. It is sad how those individuals have to put others down to make themselves feel good but that shouldnt stop those from asking or answering- especially those of us who are here to help or be helped. I think its great though how you would post the statement and make a point. Kudos to you both!

It's not that much different from people who talk about immigrants and say "You're in America now. Speak English!" As someone living in a foreign country I understand now how hard it is to learn another language while you are also trying to work. Your brain is too tired to accept the new vocabulary and grammer. I took classes in Chinese while teaching a heavy primary school schedule. I was so tired I fell asleep in class and there were only four of us in the class! The teacher wasn't boring and gave us a lot of good information, but it was difficult to process when I had 280 third graders' homework to grade and lesson plans to write on top of 28 classes to teach. I think people need to be more tolerant of those who don't speak and write English well. It's not much different from my inability to speak and write Chinese well while living in China.

In my opinion, I would say that most of these people ARE Americans who went through or are currently going through the public school systems a.k.a E-bonics. Just by reading them, that is the feeling that I am getting... But, I am glad to see that others from around the world, actually do have a voice and speak up... Bad English or not, I can understand them a lot better than I can some of my fellow Americans I talk to everyday...

i agree ! my 10 year old has asked questions and has received very hurt full answers. But there are some people that type like they would in a chat room as someone before me has already mentioned and those people are just plain lazy to take the time to do it right. People should remember that there are sometimes children that does get on here and people from other countries that doesn't know "perfect" English.

It depends. You can usually tell the difference between a language barrier, a typo, or a child, (which are OK) and someone who is just lazy or deliberately using misspellings. (Using "dis" instead of "this, "dat" instead of "that", "skool" instead of "school", etc.) Sometimes it's so hard to read it's like deciphering hieroglyphics. That's just irritating.

I agree. Some people just aren't as smart as others. People shouldn't make fun of someone else just cause they can't spell good. Thats wrong.

yes, but i dont use the best english on Y!A, as i do in the classroom. in fact, if i was writing that sentence it would state Yes, although I don't tend to use the best english on Y!A that I do in the classroom, I'm still answering your question. heh! but seriously, its dumb, but so are alot of things such as racism, hatred, and hating on people you don't know period.
