Well maybe a lot of people are truly following thier dreams, not everyone can dream of travelling the world, playing the saxophone, or skateboard until they are sixty. personally, after i get back from japan, i am going to work and save up money and open my own business. Simple dream, might not happen, but that is because life can change and maybe i will be happy doing something else.

If everyone in the world followed their dreams then McDonald's would not be able to hire anyone. No one would be cleaning laundry, or mopping floors, or any menial chores at all. Nobody would be performing laborious jobs in the hot sun, or performing services for old people in nursing homes. Mothers would stop doing chores for their children that they find unfulfilling.
In short, the world would be a terrible place filled with self absorbed people only interested in their own dreams, who do little, if anything, in the form of common service.
In order for this world to function we need all kinds of people and we need to be grateful that there are people who are willing to do chores that are really unglamorous.

The answer is that organized civilization would begin to fall apart, because everyone would be doing what the would like to do instead of all those things everyone needs to do in order to keep their lives functioning properly.
Who would pick up your garbage?
Who would pick up after you?
How would you put gas in your car if the people at the gas station decided they would rather go fishing than maintain the station?
Where would your food come from if everybody in the food production chain decided to follow their dreams instead?
etc.

People often dream of doing extreme things. Many times people wish to be basketball stars, astronauts, or rich businessmen.
If people started to follow their own dreams, then there wouldn't be as many people working at fast food restaurants and such.

if we started following our own dreams, we would just come up with different dreams, people are never satisfied. What would we have to shoot for if everyone was already doing what they wanted?

America would be filled with unemployed professional basketball players. And the rest of the world would have similar problems.

I can't believe it would be much different than it is now.
Some people's dreams are to stalk, torture, and kill other people.
