Please tell me this, how long can the United states stay a world Leader when it is so divided. All great nations have fallen, do to their division. What does our destiny hold for us if we keep this up? Where will we be in 10 years?

It is not a pretty picture is it. I have not seen this country so divided since the 1970's with the Vietnam war. We endured then, I think barring another catastrophic calamity that we will survive two more years of the Bush presidency. I think the next president whether it be a repuglican or a democrat will have their work cut out for them. But we will be reunited if the right person can come along and do it. I think if George Bush goes through with his plans to invade Iran then all bets are off. It could be the end of this great nation as we know it. I am hopeful that we can survive this man and move on in a different direction.
Just as a side bar do you remember how together we were right after 9/11 only to fall this divided by the invasion of Iraq. I think we can come together under the right circumstances, you are right we do need to pull together or divided we will fall.

The United States is not divided on the basic premise of freedom. And that's the underlying foundation which will keep us strong throughout any crisis.

I see our present division as simply how one perceives the reality of the Islamic threat.
If we wish to ignore the problem much like many countries have (a policy, which in the past, has only resulted in more terror and murder and finally culminated in the events of 9/11) vs. the reality of accepting the fact that there can be no real peace in the world as long as a demented and fanatical group continues to wage war against any nation or people that refuse to convert to their interpretation of Islam.

Simply a mindset of reality vs. the mindset of an ideal world where everyone respects everyone else and lives by the Golden Rule.

Oh, if it were only that simple.

One of the strengths of America is precisely our diversity. I refuse to let the media and its emphasis on crisis and division and problems (because that's what sells newspapers and grabs headlines) guide my thinking.

We are extraordinarily united in this country in many things - and yes, there are some issues where we are divided. We celebrate our strengths, we work to solve the problems that divide and we first take care of ourselves and THEN worry about being a world leader. We will be - and remain - a world leader as long as our life as a country reflects ideals and principles that others want to follow.

When we abandon that - we lose the right to interfere in other places.

But don't let the media scare you - we are more united than divided, and we have many more strengths than weaknesses.

"A house divided"

I guess that is what makes this country so great! We can be divided in opinion and still be strong. 9-11, & Katrina is a perfect example of this. When the chips are down , we as citizens come through, as we always do for each other.

There are a number of endings. "a house divided won't stand," ...is the effect of a cutting-edge divorce, slid down a cliff, replaced into in a flood, replaced into geared up on a railroad music, a runway, or had Obama elected into it.

If amnesty for illegal alien criminals in our country passes I do not think there is a chance of closing the divide in America..after amnesty it will only widen...many more middle-class Americans will have a "light bulb moment" and see that our government is not upholding the constitution and enforcing our laws... in favor of the very people that are taking their jobs, using their tax dollars for personal gain and generally turning our country into a lawless society! God help us if that happens....

It's already happening. Domestic terrorism, the highest rate of crime of any modern country, gated communities, open hatred between classes, persecution of and from religions, deeply rooted racial bigotry.... it's ugly. It's damned ugly.

The U.S.A. needs to work on respect and acceptance... it needs to start caring for its people, and reaching out to the world, not as an economic superpower, but as a responsible global citizen.

And if that doesn't happen, the U.S. WILL fall. It will fall from within.

here's a thought, how long can you stay alive when your grammar sucks as badly as it does? all great nations have fallen, it's a fact of life, and china is on the rise, and the U.S. is on the fall, it's just the cycle of things.

Multiculturalism and the abandonment of the American culture and subsequent embracing of every other culture has divided us to no end. Only when the love and respect for America is returned is our unity once again guaranteed
