I would like to think that diplomacy would work, but it seems the media is allowing Chavez and other evil masterminds to reinforce Ahmadinejad's rebellious behavior.

Diplomacy is the best answer. It is cost effective and in the end everyone gets something they want. It isn't a perfect system, but it doesn't breed animosity and costs thousands of lives. The United Nations has already imposed sanctions against Iran, but countries like the United States must do more to directly engage Iran in dialogue to produce the desired effect. If the current administration is unwilling to talk to Tehran, then the situation will never be resolved. As for war, we can see how effective that has been in Iraq. I am not convinced Bush is foolish enough to risk another implosion like Iraq with Iran, however.

With the current administrations that are in power in both countries, I am not hopeful for a diplomatic resolution to this problem. For diplomatic initiatives to be successful, several things need to happen first.
1) Iran must disengage itself from Iraq, in direct opposition to its own security concerns.
2) Iran must put its dream of regional leadership on the back burner, to promote peace with the Sunnis.
3) Iran must disavow its constitutional objective of a Global Islamic World Order.
4)The U.S. must disengage from Iraq in direct opposition of its own security concerns.
5) The U.S. must let Iran develop peaceful nuclear technology with direct verification, or through a third party.
6) The U.S. must force Isreal to join the NPTO by threatening to withdraw support if they do not.

I do not reasonably see ANY of these things happening in the next two years with the current players in place, so by default, I am preparing for war.

We must approach them diplomatically as equals who have a right to persue the type of government and lifestyle they desire without the USA trying to control and direct them. I think it might be more helpful if the USA put more restraints on Israel and reel them in. They appear to be out of control. They are somehow at the heart of the conflict in the region.

With the current leader in Iran and bull headed Bush diplomacy will not work. it will have to wait till G.W. and the latest Iranian leader is history. Iran is way to powerful to take on now while we have two wars going on. Maybe Israel will do the bombing.

I suggest that the US stay out of negotiations with Iran; keep their traps and let less radical countries do the work.
