We charge $55 an hour with a 3 hour minimum for housecalls. But if you bring it in it is only $55 an hour with no minimum and we can fix most problems in under an hour.

As stated the $50 or £30 about the going rate. You may try asking here and someone may be able to help for free. I just depends how bad the fix is. Also, take into consideration, if, parts are involved that adds to the labor.
Something you can try and may get labor more reasonable, if, you have a local college around go put a note on the Bulletin Board for help. Ask in the Office where the Technology Building is or talk with a teacher that teach computers. You may get free help or cheaper just for the experience of the student. DO NOT think these students not know anything. Many are very qualified, they only in College to get a paper that say they qualified.

Of course this varies depending on a lot of factors. If the particular problem is easily found by one qualified person it may only take them 10 minutes to fix... another qualified person may take 2 hours BUT they may fix many more things along the way. Hourly rates are really hard to narrow down. Rather than thinking about hourly charge, get a flat rate fee for fixing the problem. For an easy breakdown, go to www.geeksquad.com. They seem to be setting the prices these days. Whatever "qualified" person fixes your computer should accept the prices listed on geeksquad. Hope that helps! PS - I do NOT work for geeksquad.

It really depends on the problem, if it is a simple software fix, then really no more than £25 per hour.
If it is to a small office and there is a network problem , eg mainframe problem , then the charge could be £80-£120 an hour.
Personally i would not go to work for less than £250 a day!

In my opinion it wouldn't make a difference if they were qualified or not. Whether they can do the job - that's a different matter !
I am qualified (MCP MCDST MCSE CCNA) but I still charge the same as years ago when I wasn't.
I charge £20 for the first hour then £15 for every hour after.
No call out charge
No expenses (Except parts)
I charge a hell of a lot more for networking though :
£50 consultancy (if hired - free if not)
£30 per hour - labour

You are going to find such a variety of people offering this service, from the simple one man band to the executive company. In Sussex, here in the UK, there are loads of people offering one to one assistance at £25 for a local call out and one hour of service and to be honest that is the kind of fee you should aim for as they are all scrambling for business ( except the very best who will always have a full appointment book ). But to be honest, you should either seek a local recommendation or find one and hope for the best! I have had three people in my home over the years .... one was excellent, one was so so and the other was a downright time waster. Good luck!
