How do I get footprint stains out of shoe soles?

Because of wearing my favorite pair of heels a lot, now they have that dirty footprint image almost engraved into them, lol. Any ideas on how I can get them out, and make the shoes look like new again? :]

Clean them with soap and an old toothbrush. It will take some time, but it works just fine!
My father does it with his leather hiking sandals (I can assure you they get quite muddy and sweaty...) and they look as new!
