a home theater would be nice. you'll probably need movies....

5 or more channel surround sound (5.1, 6.1, 7.1)
SUB WOOFER Is a must! (That's the .1 above)
As good speakers as you can afford.
Good sound can make up for almost any size TV or screen. It's the one area you can beat the theaters at what they do, without going into too much debt.

unless your room that you are going to use it in is as large as a whole house, you do not need to spend lots of money, for a room say 15 by 20 I would not spend over 150 bucks, my room is 20 by 20, I paid 130 at radio shack, and wow the sound is great, most people pay far to much they overcompensate, and the high end brand names are what you pay for not the sound.

Do not get a THX sound system. Its a waste of speaker wire. Stay with a standard stereo sound system but make sure you got a good subwoofer.

flat screens are nice, microwave for popcorn, mini fridge. it really depends on how much you can spend and how much room you have.
