Seems to me that one word answers seem to be the norm most of the time and I wonder where the Art of conversation has gone. Some questions deserve more thought in answers surely.

Unlike the gentleman before me with the droll sense of humour, I would like to dignify your question with a thoughtful and hopefully, entertaining, answer.

The trouble stems from asking 'closed' questions - those that can be answered with either a yes or a no. Such as yours. The art is in crafting a fiendishly clever question that entices others to respond and where they have to explain themselves or give detail. It also helps if their ego can be boosted by making them think only a very clever person could get best answer.

Do persevere. Check out some of the other sites within S & C. There's open verbal warfare on the Religion & Spirituality site to do with Jehovah's Witnesses, for example. I confess, I have been guilty of flaming those particular flames, but from the purest motives, I hasten to add.

I hope I have done something to restore your faith in the value of aksing and answering questions and to assure you that the art of conversation is not yet dead!

You're the other side of the spectrum. I've read people complain about overly long answers. I think the points are an incentive but I visit this site and answer questions because I enjoy it and I have learned quite a bit in my life and some people benefit from the knowledge that people give on here. There are some who make light of everything or become insulting or report people who make responses that they don't agree with but overall it's okay.
