so my computer has 4 epansion slots, 2 are together and th eother two together, my primary question was above, also if 1 card was in one slot and the other in the other set would both be recognised or only the one in the first set? my computer has 256 memory but i just opened it and found two cards of 256 and got curious why it didnt read the other one so now I put them both in the same 2 slots next to each other if you know what I mean and I have an additional card of 512 that I would like to add but from my knowledge I think this can't work they ened to be the same! so help? why did it not recognise the other card? must they be together?

some banks (one memory expansion slot) need to be ALL filled or NOT

i think it's okey to fill the bank with memory card with the same size

and fill the second with your 512 card

but you cannot install two memry cards with different sizes in one bank

( maybe the bank that did not recognized the 256 card was bad try other one)

You can add memory to a pc but in the case of a laptop I don't think you can have 2 cards.
At work I had to remove the 256 and upgrade to a 512 or 1 gig card.
It would serve no purpose having 2 cards as even if it worked, the pc would slow down as a result of swapping memory from one to the other (I would think)

In most "modern" systems using a "windoze" OS, you can mix memory and te system will recognize it.

The memory might not be compatible together.
