Have any of you who are disagreeing with my assessment of the Democratic Party heard of "Personal Responsibility"?
You're responsible for your actions or lack there of in your own life. The government should have to step in because you lack the skills to get a good paying job.

Letitgo33...if I ever fall off track, I will pick myself back up, even if it means going to work at McDonald's long enough to save up to get back.
The government doesn't owe me anything...I owe myself.

Control. Democrats are synonymous with the term "Big Government", no matter what Bill Clinton and his unscrupulous wife say.

well you have heard the old notion of paved with good intention...this question is too simplistc, but I will offer this. Goverenement is too big, but it can't be as small as some want it because the nation is too big. This isn't 1776. Look at two points:
WIth record low unemployment, we still have unemployment 4.4% that means betwen 12 - 20 million people are unemployed. Now that may seem tolerable until you realize that that figure (and it may be low) only represents "able body people". What about the children of those 12 -20 million or elderly/disabled, mentally/ terminally ill dependents of those 12-20 million? Do we simply let them suffer?
Welfare reform is great and we have made some stides, but do th echildren of applicaia or the south side of chicago deserve to suffer because their parents can't (won't) work? We have to educate these children wether their parenrts pay property tax (how must public education is funded) or not.
I will stop there, but I am jsut saying the major probelms with dems and reps are that they reduce the debate to a 5-60 second sound bite and we the people are too lazy to think anything through.
If we ended every "social program" today what do you think America would look like in two months?

I don't think they want to, it's the fact that some people have to. If you've ever taken an economics class, you would know about scarcity. This means that there is not enough to go around.
In this case, you should also ask, "Why do corporate CEOs want so much damn money?" when you think about it, we would all save money if the wealthy shared the wealth. If that happened, government wouldn't force them to give others money through social programs. It would be much more efficient. In Europe, or at least in Germany for instance, waiters/waitresses make a lot more money. The tip system is pretty much round up to the next dollar. In America, we are fed the illusion that capitalism is freedom, when in fact, it creates the same system of strong preying on weak that spawned the need for government.
Why do conservatives think they deserve so much?

I think its the republicans that are out of touch, giving all the foreign aid to other countries while our own go homeless hungry and without proper medical care. The republicans are funded by whom, pharmaceutical companies, oil companies, and of course the military industrial complex, we have a sitting president, heavily invested in all, and the Vice president still on the payroll of the Halliburton Military manufacturing conglomerate, whilest George W and George H. are part of the Carsyle group, along with members of the Bin Ladden family! If there was a balance in the counrty we wouldn't need those benefits you speak of, but with outsourcing of jobs, runnaway expenditures in the Iraqi Civil War, allowing the Oil companies to cheat the government out of royalities, big tax breaks for the ultra wealthy and corperate America, the working man and woman is inbetween a rock and a hrd place. Obviously 78% of America balmes the republicans adn Mr. Bush, so you sir are in a vastly decreasing minority.

Where did any democrat ever say that they wanted people to rely on government so much? I just wish we could get the oil corporations, the military industrial complex of independent corporations and the giant multi-national corporations to stop relying on our taxes as subsidies. It would be nice if they would stop depending on our government so much.
You cons and your 'personal responsibility' lectures. It's a great idea that it is high time you and your party (the GOP) start having personal responsibility. It has yet to be perceived by the general public if that ever happens. But your definition of personal responsibility is that everyone should have it EXCEPT the conservatives, the neo-cons, the GOP and YOU. You like to place blame of everything on liberals who disagree with Bush's policies rather than blaming Bush for his failures and failed policies. It will be a great day when cons finally learn the meaning of personal responsibility.

Because we are human beings and not animals. Some times we need a helping hand to get back on track. I hope when you need help in your life that somebody loves you. I hope that when you are hungry and tired that somebody feeds you. People helping each other is about the only meaningful thing we have in our existence. Everything else is empty.

Democrats believe that people in America can't provide for themselves. They enable people who are unwilling to work and can't seem to stop having kids by giving them taxpayers money. They want people to depend on government assistance so they have more power to control them.
