Since someone answered the math question..

The other is one of the great questions...

I guess they are gifts ..and you can cultivate many things by study, but often it is the gifted ones who truly excel.

(this is NOT an invitation to skip math .. but an invitation not to spend 6 hours a day at it if you dont' like it)

Why do many math brains have no common sense, or cannot date a woman to save themselves?

why are there the great chef's of the world?

martial artists, dancers, violin players?

These are all related questions .. and we have no good answers.

Perhaps from the creator? Perhaps random chance?

I think not - just from parental encouragment when young, but that helps. There is a certain amount of nature AND nurture in everything.

Good Luck!!

7r / 12 = -14 / r

you don't want the variable to be on the bottom. Multuiply r for bo sides
r(7r/12) = (-14/r)r

use distributive proberty
7r^2/12 = -14

get rid of the 12 on the bottom by multiply 12 for both sides
12(7r^2/12) = -14(12)

use distributive property
7r^2= -168

divide 7 for both sides
r^2= -24

take a square root
r= sqr(-24)

you can't have a negative under square root, therefor, there is no solution

7r / 12 = -4 / r

Let's do this one step at a time, shall we?

First off, cross multiply. Cross multiply means that, on one side of the equal sign, you're going to have the "top" of one fraction and the "bottom" of the other, and vice versa for the bottom of that same fraction with the top of the other. So, for

7r / 12 = -14 / r

We're going to have

(7r)(r) = -14(12)

See what I did there? r is the bottom of the other fraction, 7r is the top of the first fraction; those get merged together. Then, the top of the second fraction is multiplied with the bottom of the first fraction. This is known as cross multiplying.

Solving for the rest of the equation,

7r^2 = -168
r^2 = -24

This has no real solutions. To obtain the complex solutions:

r = +/- sqrt(-24)
r = +/- sqrt(24)i
r = +/- 2sqrt(6)i

so the two solutions are
r = {2i sqrt(6), -2i sqrt(6)}

First: eliminate fractions-multiply the denominators by everything....

(12)(r)(7r/12) = (12)(r)(-14/r)

*Cross cancel "like" terms & combine the rest...

(r)(7r) = (12)(-14)
7r^2 = - 168

Sec: set the equation to "0" > add "168" to both sides (when you move a term to the opposite side, always use the opposite sign)...

7r^2 + 168 = - 168 + 168
7r^2 + 168 = 0

Third: factor the expression...

7(r^2 + 24) = 0

*Solve the "r" variable > set it to "0"....

r^2 + 24 = 0

*Subtract "24" from both sides...

r^2 + 24 - 24 = 0 - 24
r^2 = - 24

Fourth: find the square root of both sides...

V`(r^2) = +/- V`(-24)

*You can't find the square root of a negative sign > the negative sign becomes an imaginary number "i"...

r = +/- i V`(24)

a. r = i V`24
r = i V`2*2*3
r = 2i V`3

b. r = - i V`24
r = - i V`2*2*3
r = - 2i V`3

Solutions: r = 2i V`3 and - 2i V`3 Or, (+/- i V`24)

Proportional problem

multiply the means

multiply the extremes

tO SOLVE THE PROBLEM YOU MULTIPLY EACH FRACTION WITH THEIR RECPRICALS

7r/12 turns to 12/7r

-14/r turns to r/-14 or r1/-14

so 12/7r times r/-14

cross multiply

r times 7r= 7r

-14 x 2 =28

7r=28

7r/7=28/7

r=4

I guess this is hard becuz r cant be on both sides of the equation

2007-01-28 04:35:32 · answer #6 · answered by Anonymous · 2 0

cross multiply:

You'd get 7r^2 = -168
divide by 7: r^2 = -24
take the square root: r = sqrt(-24)
or simplifying:
r = i*sqrt(4*6)
r = 2*i*sqrt(6)

where i is the imaginary # ... sqrt(-1)

You get the logic required to solve algebra and other math problem from one or both of your parents. Whether you call it heredity or a gift, not everyone gets it! It really is too bad, because I see so many struggle with even simple math. This particular problem does not have a rational number answer.

It's impossible.

7r divided by 12 can NOT equal -14 divided by r.
Or in other words, the "r's" can not be the same in this equation.

I'll try solving it...

2007-01-28 04:31:12 · answer #9 · answered by T.VO 3 · 1 2

since the numbers 7 and 12 are positive r must be a negative number because 14 is. I dont give answers but i help with hints.
