Intimacy begins with a deep desire to please and compliment and express how precious our partner is to us. And to express that feeling in many different ways, sometimes playful, passionate, and very intense, and most often in simple romantic ways is so desired. A touch. A passionate kiss. Gentle rubs. Everything that arouses you more and more. Creating that burning desire to belong to each other.

On the other hand, sex is also a great expression of how much we get turned on in an instant, an expression of that fire between us. Even a "quickie" can be as intensely passionate as the ones that we take the time.

How often is there a good balance of both in our lives? How desirable it is? Why do we then here people express views that one is better than the other?

I think it has to do with the differences of the sexes. Guys tend to see sex as LOVE whereas women tend to see affection in non-sexual ways as LOVE. So these different views can really cause problems. To guys, sex isn't just a physical gratifying act. It's a MAJOR component to their self-esteem. If he senses, his lover is unsatisfied or he is a poor lover it can be devistating to his confidence in every other area of his life!!!! It's not bad, just different.
However, if a women is ignored outside of the bedroom, she'll tend to feel like a slut. Women need verbal encouragement, cards, empathy, and hugs. It's not bad, just different. Without it, they won't feel loved no matter how great their guy is in bed.

Yes you are so right intimacy is a two way street... You have to both meet in the middle. Sex is more like an act for instant gratification with no feelings of love or affection involved. I myself desire intimacy alot more then sex.

It takes two people to make the perfect balance. I think that is what they mean when they use the term, equally yoked. A long passionate night and a quickie can be just as exciting and close as long as ther is love. (Pasadena, TX)

If you have this in your relationship, then keep it. You're very lucky if you do. All too many times there isn't a balance like this and it results in feeling unwanted, and more prob.'s stem from that.
