I have used Tax Act software for about 4 years now. It is complete and easy to use. In fact if you want the simple version it is free for the download. I use the premium version which includes downloading the forms direct to the IRS for 12.95. It is very simple to download from the internet and you can start and stop whenever you want. It saves your data from year to year so you always have access to back filings.
I am also familiar with Turbo Tax having used it a couple of times but I like the way Tax Act answers questions and its format better.

I've used TurboTax and TaxCut over the years. They have many similarities and either would do an adequate job. For me, it ultimately became a question of price and I've used TaxCut for the last several years.
Both programs come in several versions with the more expensive containing reference material, planning options, and so on. After the first year or two of doing my own taxes, I became familiar enough with the forms I needed that I didn't use the "interview" features that hand-hold you through the setup and filing process. For novices, a strong interview process would be helpful in my opinion and as I recall TurboTax had a slight edge in that department.
