Sun developed Java in the 90's! So, it isn't such a short time.

As for the reason it is popular...many coders find te language structure easier to use than asp, php, and others so they use java. It also has features you just won't find in other languages. Try doing the same things with php!

Because programming in this language gets your time less than the others. The statements are compressed(you can have lots of functions in just one line) and the speed of compiling, loading and running is high!!
