You give too much credit to the ability of our government to keep secrets. The number of people that would have had too be involved in keeping the secret would have been gigantic. The launch dates were advertised well in advance. Occasionally they were delayed but many launches happened as originally planned. Large numbers of people witnessed the launches in person. Large numbers of people were involved in the building of the systems that were put together to create the Saturn V rockets and Apollo capsules and Lunar Landers.
During the time of the Moon landings the USA had an adversarial relationship with the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union would have found it very advantageous to alert the world to some big lie being perpetrated by the USA. They never tried to deny that humans from the USA had actually walked on the moon.
It is not conceivable that all these people would have lied about the moon landing. The landing of people on the Moon was within the abilities of the time and there was a military need to develop the technology to ensure that the Mutual Assured Destruction concept was never tilted to the point that the Soviet Union thought that they could destroy the USA without retaliation.

I really just wish everyone would get off this topic. Its not worth the time to debate, and most of you weren't even around at the time.

It was 35 years ago.
They didn't have CGI technology back then to pull this off.
No way any government could keep over 100,000 people from spilling the beans if this was to be a secret (everyone at NASA, everyone involved in the "Hollywood production", the news media, etc.).
The Russians did NOT want the US to get to the moon first, so they would have been the first to say it was a hoax, and they didn't then and haven't now, so they must believe it was real.
And a lot more that I just don't care to get into again.

There are no pros and cons - there is science, and there are people misunderstanding science. Once you understand how light works, how gravity works, and how orbital mechanics and radiation work, you can easily see how to get to the Moon. And how the videos couldn't have been faked on Earth, where we have gravity.

My opinion of National Geographic just went way, way down
