You can't. It takes practice. No way around it.

I've played and taught on the side for 20+ years, so here goes..
There is no shortcut to 'getting good'- it takes time and dedication
Get live instruction- if you don't want to pay $25 for the half hour sessions at the music store, try a local community college, nonprofit community music school, or church with a contemporary worship team for group lessons. They're less expensive, and the big advantage is that you'll meet players at about your skill level-find someone you'd like to work with, share the music/tab/chords for a song or two, familiarize yourself with the material, and meet up for a jam session on a regular basis. You'll both get good fast-my own experience is that music is a social activity- you probably won't go very far if you're trying to do it alone-

Learn the power chords and practice scales until your fingers move around the fretboard with precision.
It will take a while but it will be worth it.
