I'd like answers with a source actually.

I doubt if you will get an answer or a source.
Languauges grow and develop over hundreds and hundreds of years and many of the grammatical rules derive from usage.
Generally, the progressive tenses cannot be used with any verb to do with the senses. (Even then, there are exceptions.)
eg You cannot say, I am having a headache. Instead, I have a headache.
This is smelling bad. Instead, This smells bad.
...and so on. I don't think you will find any grammar book that will give you a reason.
In just the same way, nobody can explain why certain prepositions go with particular verbs.
eg I arrived to... WRONG I arrived at... Correct. etc.
