Fleming is usually mentioned as the best captain but I'm not so sure any more. I was watching the Test series v Sri Lanka and I wasn't convinced by some of his field settings and bowling changes. Ponting has come back well from the nightmare of 2005 and now does a competent job. Vaughan is the best but you can't count someone who hasn't played Tests in a year!
I don't think that there's an outstanding captain at the moment, Smith doesn't trust spin, dear old Inzi just ambles around (probably not the worst thing to do given the volatile nature of Pakistani cricket) and Lara although he's not as bad as he used to be still only has the job because there is literally no-one else. O my Benaud and my Brearley long ago! ;)

Saurav Ganguly. Australia is a great team it is not a great thing to make australia in first. But Ganguly saved india. when he become the captain of indian cricket india was struggling because of the problems of azar and jadega. most of the peoples started hate cricket. from that ganguly built a strong team

MY vote goes to ex Indian captain Saurav Gangully , he was an excellent captain, agressive and quite positive, it is because of his enimity with the Indian team coach GregChappel he has lost his captaincy and his place in the team, but has made a great comeback, watch out for him in the world cup.

Ricky Ponting by a country mile. His form has not been affected by his captaincy - he sets the field that 9 times out of 10 is spot on to snare the batsmen. He has done his homework on the England team that is for sure.

I agree with you about Stephen Fleming A good captain with a side that you can't really call brilliant but he gets results.

For me it is Ricky Ponting. He has a great cricket brain and has the ability to back it up - like a captain should.
Vaughan does well with a limited team to pick.

On stats you'd have to say Ricky Ponting, but then he's had the raw material in his squad to make his job relatively easy, and notwithstanding a few shining individual performances his captaincy has erred on the side of being a bit too cocky to be great. I think Michael Vaughan did an excellent job, particularly in the last but one Ashes. If he comes back to the job i would say him.

Ricky Ponting's team mauled England in the Ashes and are carrying on the good work in the one-dayers.Other than Ponting, Fleming or Inzamam because of the inspiration they provide their team so regularly.
