It's usually not important to correct someones mispronouncing a word, I ask only if I'm unsure what they mean. I have elderly relatives with very little education and it hurts and humiliates them if I correct them so I feel it's just un called for. If it's one of my peers and we're alone I'll correct a word, otherwise, I keep quiet. As far as spelling, if I can help someone by correcting a rough draft error for a paper or something that hasn't been mass distributed yet, then sure, otherwise why point out others errors all the time. Maybe point out in private (one on one that there is spell check)

Depends on the situation. I will generally say something like "I've always pronounced that ..... - is that how it's supposed to be pronounced...?" Or something that brings it up but not in a confrontational or correctional way.
Sometimes I let it go, if I don't like or don't care about the person or if I don't know them. I used to work for a woman who would occasionally come across words that she liked for whatever reason, then she would use them a lot, incorrectly, to try to sound intelligent. They weren't usually that obscure of words, so to educated people it made her sound like an idiot. For the first year we worked together I would let her know she was using the words incorrectly, but her reaction was always so harsh and negative, and she would continue to use the word incorrectly, that I stopped telling her. For the next couple years I just watched her make a fool of herself trying to look important and intelligent.

I usually find a tactful way to tell people they have mispronounced or misspelled a word. Unless it's someone I don't care for...then I fond a little humor in it. Yeah, that's bad, I know.

Depends on the circumstances. If it's a friend and it involves their resume or a speech or something, particularly that he has asked for my opinion about, then yes. If it's just some random person, probably not. There's correction to help and there's correction to hurt.

Good Question....u get a star!

There were only a few things that my mother used to mispronounce, one of them was "Neapolitan" ice cream, she called it "Napoleon". I corrected her every single time and the next time, she would call it "Napoleon" again, I couldn't understand what her problem was. Now that she has passed away, and as I think about it, I do believe that she did it on purpose just to mess with my mind and my dumbass fell for it every time!

As long as you are not rude, you really should correct a person who cannot spell or pronounce your name. If you let it go, than the person may feel embarrassed down the line when they find out they have been wrong. Just point it out, let them know the mistake and tell them it's no problem. Make it into a joke and tell them that nobody gets it right.

It depends on what word it is. If he/she mis pronounces or misspells something that's 30 letters long, I won't correct them. If it's some 3 letter word that we use everyday then I will correct him and tell him he's as stupid as ****.

I'll pretend there's nothing wrong. Some people take it the wrong way when you correct them.
