just purchased, 3 weeks of use, have set for hibernation when you close screen, now screen won't come back on...like it is stuck in hibernation...like the computer isn't recognizing the lid is open....help!!!

Try opening the lid and pressing the power button. If this does not work, I would call Dell, they are alwasy willing to help their customers without a problem.

I have the same problem with my inspiron 1100. Start by manually powering off and starting it back up. Don't worry about crashing the system, XP is very resilient. Once you do that, go onto dell and verify you have the latest and greatest drivers (especially video). Download and install them.

There may be a small reset hole beneath laptop..if so, try to reset..otherwise, I guess I would remove the battery and ac power for a few minutes then reapply power, see if you can get to reboot or safemode screen, and check your settings...also, there IS a lid switch that may be defective.

You need to press the power button once...
Don't hold the button down.
Lifting the lid does nothing.
