Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunter series.
Really, really good paranormal novels with a refreshingly different scope on what vampires are and their world. They're mostly romances though, I should warn you but learning about Daimons and Dark-Hunters will be worth it. I highly recommend it.
If that's not your cup of it though, J.R. Wards Black Dagger Brotherhood is really worth it and of course Ann Rice.
Hope this helped

Fear and Seduction?
Interview with a Vampire-Anne Rice
-if you like it theres 4 more immeditly after it, 5 more related novels. Then you have to read the Mayfair Series (3-4 books) to understand the final novel Blackwood Farm which ties everything together.
Guilty Pleasures-Laurell K Hamilton
-start of a (so far)15 book series. If you also like Fairies check out the first book of the Merry Gentry Series A Kiss of Shadows

If you want vampire books that are really funny, try the series of Betsy, Queen of the Vampires by Maryjanice Davidson. The are silly, but so fun to read.

Charlaine Harris has a series called "The Southern Vampire" series. It should be in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy section of your local bookstore if it is shelved correctly.

Laurell K. Hamilton's series about a vampire hunter is supposed to be good. (Was recommended to me, but I'm not into vampires.)
