Possible is not the same as actual. It is possible that life exists on Mars but we don't know now. That is why experiments are being done and proposed for future visits to Mars. We have determined that there are no lifeforms like humans on Mars. The life that might exist on Mars will be different than us since the environment is different.

One idea that is being discussed is that the steps toward life on the earth really began on mars and that some critical component was transferred to earth due to some cataclysmic event billions of years ago. That idea includes both the possibility of parallel development on Mars and the extinction( or failure to develop) of life on Mars.

Another idea is that a cataclysmic event on earth might have transferred life to Mars where it could have continued along an independent path from earth. Again life could therefore continue to exist on Mars or could have gone extinct.

It is also possible that life is so inevitable that it independently developed on both worlds.

finally it is possible that life is so rare a phenomenon that we are alone in our solar system and life does not exist on any other planet.

Yes - some type of microbe or bacteria.

This kind of life exists on earth in conditions we are only just discovering - from hot water vents on the floors of the oceans to freezing conditions at the poles. Why couldn't they also exist on Mars.

Ya I say that it is possible. In my view , the first primitive life on earth was formed in water i.e Di-hydrogen monoxide . As recently the scientists found ice caps on surface on Mars there can be a possibility of existance of life on it.

Yes it could be possible, because scientists have found that there is water on the surface of the planet. I learned this in environmental studies a couple weeks back.

They have found microbes miles below the ground on earth, so maybe there's something like that on Mars.

Yes. Life does not have to be carbon base. Life does not have to exsist in this narrow window of conditions we live in. And maybe life does not have to be in a phsical form.

yes because not all life exists as we know it some life lives in what we think of as a toxic invironment.

maybe, on a microscopic scale...but it may not be "life" as we know it. I suppose there could be some type of microbial life, but until we go there and see, we'll never know for sure.

Perhaps not yet, but when it gets closer to the sun it should be fine, after all we probably moved here from Venus.
