Its not a matter of "if"! Its a matter of "when"! All these stupid rules they keep giving about protecting the quarterback and all. The quarterback should not be any different than any other player. If you can't take a hit then mabe you should play golf. As long as the quarterback has that ball in his hands he should be no different than a wide reciever or a running back. And another thing: Players these days are sidelined for rediculous reason. Such as a broken pinky finger or a broken toe. NHL Hockey has a much tougher breed of athletes than NFL players. And the NFL of old was by far much tougher on players than it is today. The new NFL is too soft.

Keep in mind, the QB protection rules arent really put in place for the QB's sake. The rules are voted on every year by the OWNERS.....these guys are all business. The reason you have to protect your QB so much is that, moreso than any other position, they're the cornerstone of your team. The QB takes the snap on almost every play, the offense runs through him, and the defense comes after him on every play.

Now, consider how much money the owners are paying to players like Peyton and McNabb. Consider how much people pay to come see them play. Consider how much money they'd lose, in wasted salary and lost ticket sales, if their star QB got put on IR early in the season and the team started tanking hard (see: Miami Dolphins 06, though Culpepper was never that "good").

The QB rules arent there to protect the safety of the player - though the owners will say thats why - its to protect the safety of their investments.

NFL is getting to soft taking the fun out of the game. If the players had a tougher workout some of them would'nt be the baby's they are today!

yeah.. i agree... cuz to some degree the QBs are always punching bags for huge lineman cuz they're not ready to take a hit when they throw and they're blindsided sometimes.. but i think driving the QB to the ground should be legal, and WRs take much worse hits over the middle and there's no rules against that... it's football, ur supposed to get hit, and it's supposed to hurt. Yeah and i guess these days all the guys are concerned about their longetivity and stuff, they're not as willing to lay their bodies on the line like guys who have a lot more to lose.

in a few years, the nfl will ruin itself because of the dumb rules that are now in play. even recievers are being babied because defensive backs cant even touch them after 5 yards anymore. the nfl is an offensive game now

I agree with you completely. When one plays football, they should expect to hit and be hit; that's part of the game.

If a player can't handle that, he shouldn't be out there.

It will never become that. This will happen when hockey becomes fun to watch and soccer in america will dominate over all others.
