Find a new girlfriend and have her around when your current one turns up on Valentine's Day. This shows her that it's really over. Obviously your new one needs to be more attractive than the current one otherwise she'll think there's still a chance.
Also, Tear out the dating page of your local paper and circle a few likely sounding candidates for her. That way you're helping her to move on AND being supportive by helping her choose.

well, make a date with her at a restaurant and don't turn up. Text her to say that you are out with your new lady at a better restaurant and you didn't want to upset lady no. 2 - that presents you in a sensitive light (sensitive to no. 2 lady). Girlfriend no. 1 gets the message that she is finished with.
problem solved!
Oh, and if girlfriend no. 1 has had a few drinks while she's been waiting for your no-show, and has to pay the bill, then that will thoroughly naff her off and you won't be bothered by her hanging about your house wanting you back. Even better!

Do you wanna be labeled as an ashole for the rest of your life? Don't do it in Valentine's day for god's sake do it this week and tell her, don't give her a cactus and expect her to realize that your relationship is not going the way they expected because you feel you both are drifting apart as individuals and the best thing to do would be end your relationship now.

The nicest way of "finishing" would be to do it today.
(and a "sensitive" guy wouldn't need to "send a message"... he'd discuss the situation openly)
p.s. buy the cactus for yourself
Good luck to your girlfriend.

I honestly say that it would be much kinder to break it off now, not on Valentine's day. That is really bad, bad, form.
But if you do, then by all means give her a cricket bat before you tell her.

End it before Valentines Day you rotter and tell her to her face if you have the guts. Suggest you give her a brick then she can hit you over the head with it.

There is NO nice way to finish with a girl on valenitines day, trust me! Why do it then? I promise you she will be a million times more hurt if you do that. Don't give her something just talk to her, and please don't do it on valentines day, the sooner you do it the better, for your sake and hers.

At least buy her a card with a simple message (avoid signing it 'love from' etc..just to & from!) and maybe a book or something non romantic (that's what I did once i'm ashamed to say!!).
