No-your answer is incorrect.

First: eliminate parenthesis > distribute the negative sign & the outer term with the terms in parenthesis ....

5x - x - 2 - 3(x) - 3(- 4)

5x - x - 2 - 3x + 12

Sec: combine "like" terms...

5x - x - 3x - 2 + 12

= x + 10

5x - (x + 2) - 3(x - 4)

5x - x - 2 - (3x - 12)

4x - 2 - 3x + 12

x + 10

- - - - - - - -

When a negative ( - ) sign preceeds a parenthesis. once the parenthesis is removed all signs change - to + and + to -

- - - - - - - - - - s-
