Just to point out upon reading on Common Sense's answer. It is a valid answer but i have to contend that common sense is a part of our intelligence. It is indeed practical knowledge without the supplement of information, data and resources. It primarily,is the immediate action our intelligence puts out before it internalizes on the details of the information, data, numbers etc. We may observe that IQ tests are usually subdivided into fields. Spatial analogy, we use our common sense in it. Numerical sense and verbal analogies, we do need the use of our absorbed information and data. Neurological tests, we use purely analysis and common sense. This is according to Carl Jung, Methods of Psychometry copyrighted in 1988 or 89.

Being intelligent and being smart are two different horses......each can only take you so far.

If you've been in college, you have probably seen the quantum physics majors who can barely tie their shoestrings in knots. (before the time of universal velcro straps on shoes)

Be the participant in many areas of thinking.....just don't get trapped into one intellectual niche and believe there is no more to be valued in life for you.

There are intellectually gifted kids in schools across this land who over and over barely make "C" grades. Why? They are certainly bright enough. There is no test for motivation.

You match intellectual ability with motivation and you have a tremendous individual...and if that same person is a shapely female, well, we guys just don't have a chance then......

Yes, I do believe in in.

I was tested as a child and my score was 130. School was very easy and actually quite enjoyable for me, IF I would have studied I probably would have done much better in my life. People have often told me that I missed my calling and should have studied Law or Medicine. As I have gotten older, I have also found that I relate to things differently than many of my peers, and often become frustrated with their lack of knowledge (or caring) about the world around them.

The IQ test is accurate for one type of intelligence only- the ability to learn, or simply happening to know information. If Suzie is good at sports or music but not in other areas, in taking the IQ test, people might say that Suzie is stupid, but she is not, because she's good at tennis.
As for other measures, there are. The Gardener's Multiple Intelligence test. It measures seven types of intelligence. There are logical/mathematic, linguistic, bodily kinesthetic, musical...etc. It shows what you are really good at and by how much. There's a link for one below.

yes... n i believe in its accuracy on others, too....
altho it should not b use to measure up a person, coz someone with a high IQ but low EQ has pretty much the same chance of doing something stupid as someone with a low IQ but high EQ...

Yes. Since everything you do, think, or say is right to you from a first-person perspective, you need someone or something in a third-person perspective to help you find out how smart you are.

I don't need an IQ test to tell me how intelligent I am. I already know.

No. It doens't, one person could be great at school but not street wise, the other could be horrible but the street wise. I'm smart, though it doesn't show grade wise. I may get B's but my teachers say I get A's in common sence and wishes that they could grade you on it.
