Way to fix my computers boot?
I have several things about my computers boot i want fixed. First When my hp starts i see the blue hp screen then after that i go to a os select screen. I want to skip this. Secound after the Windows xp loading screen only shows for about 3 secounds with that blue bar moving then it goes to a black screen for about 15 secounds before the login screen shows Is there a way to get rid of this wait, or have the BOOT SCREEN run longer during that 15 secounds?

To disable the OS selection screen, go to Start and right-click on My Computer (if it's not on your desktop), then go to Properties and click the 'Advanced' tab. Click 'Settings' under 'Startup and Recovery' and uncheck 'Time to display list of operating systems'.

Also, click the Edit button and change timeout=X to 0, then save and exit.

It's best to also select your default operating system, if not already, then uncheck every other box and put 'none' in the bottom drop-down box. Then Okay your way out and reboot. The OS selection menu should be gone.

As for the long pause before the OS login screen appears, this is most likely due to many factors such as startup items and processes, as well as invalid/unneeded device manager entries.

1. To remove the problem of blue screen of HP go to you BIOS and select the stertup screen, but it will be replaced by the black screen showing the checking of RAM and other hardware of computer. I suggest you keep it that only.

2. To change the duration of Windows Xp loading. Select START after bootup, select RUN, and type msconfig and press enter. Select BOOT.INI tab and in this change the timeout to your desired value.

3. This time is dependent on the amount of RAM and number of services running during startup. You can reduce this by disablling some serivices running on startup or by incresing your RAM or try increasing virtual RAM also.

Go into your BIOS setup. You can access this by following the on-screen prompt during boot. (usually hitting Delete during boot-up). Find boot options and set it for quick-boot. This will bypass some of the tests that take a while during boot up.

Also, remove any adware that has installed itself. A lot of these things load during boot up. Go to Start/Run and type in "msconfig" and click the startup tab. Uncheck any items that look suspicious. You can find info on the web about which processes are important to leave checked and which ones might be unnecessary.
