I don't think Raj Kapoor anyways took inspiration from Hollywood movies. I can however say that Dimples (Bobby's) clothes where definitely inspired by the comic book "Archie's". All her clothes looked like they were taken straight out of the book (from either Veronica or Betty)

My best guess is that the movie "Bobby" which was released in 1973 was inspired by Hollywood movie "Love Story" which was relased in 1970.
