I know it's called a bass, but I can't find it anywhere on the internet. I am wondering if there is a particular name for it. The instrument is large and the person playing it stands behind it strumming the strings. It was used in a lot of oldies songs.

You are thinking of a string bass.

I'm going to go with Double Bass. It's not really a Cello, though you could play it like one. The String Bass comes from the usage as a substitute for a Tuba.

It's not a cello! That's a completely different instrument (one I happen to play, by the way).

Search under "double bass" or "string bass", and make sure to use the quotes.
