Since it sounds like you have a technical background, you may want to stick to the more technical trades at first, like editing, animation or sound production. These would be close enough to what you already know to get you through the hard part of learning a new trade from scratch. After getting a feel for the industry, you can then decide if you want to work towards cinematography or directing.

Where you get such classes depends on where you live. If you can move anywhere in the world, Hollywood is probably too competitive if you're not sure you want to get into the business, but I'm sure there are plenty of film schools. New York is known for its film schools...can't think of which university it is that's most prominent. Canada has a great film production industry so look up the opportunities there. Try The Film Board of Canada's website. Hong Kong I think is the center of film making in Asia, and India's "Bollywood" churns out films all the time.

If you're thinking more locally, you'll just have to see what's around. Universities often have courses in film production. Look in their Arts department for possibilities, or talk to one of their administrators who help prospective students. In the US you can also find classes at some Junior Colleges, adult education programs or film centers usually found in the big cities.

Hope that helps and good luck with your career!
