firstly u spelt wrongly...
stalactite...... points down.... (just remember there is a letter 'c' n remember ceiling).
stalagmite grow on the ground so they point up (just remember there is a letter 'g' in the word n g for ground).
my teacher told me tat.

I remember it as stalactites hold 'tite' to the ceiling. Stalagmites are on the ground, then by default.

I find it easier if I think of the letters M and T. M appears to point up like a mountain and T seems more like something that is hanging
